About the Calculations

BMI (Body Mass Index):

BMI is a measure of body fat based on height and weight. Formula: BMI = weight (kg) / height (m)²

  • Underweight: BMI less than 18.5
  • Normal weight: BMI 18.5-24.9
  • Overweight: BMI 25-29.9
  • Obese: BMI 30 or greater

Mifflin St Jeor Equation:

Considered one of the most accurate methods for calculating Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR). Developed in 1990 and widely used by nutritionists and fitness professionals.

  • Men: BMR = 88.362 + (13.397 × weight in kg) + (4.799 × height in cm) - (5.677 × age in years)
  • Women: BMR = 447.593 + (9.247 × weight in kg) + (3.098 × height in cm) - (4.330 × age in years)

Activity Multipliers:

  • Sedentary: BMR × 1.2
  • Lightly Active: BMR × 1.375
  • Moderately Active: BMR × 1.55
  • Very Active: BMR × 1.725
  • Extra Active: BMR × 1.9
